Inctober 2026: 09.10 - 9. Raw

in WORLD OF XPILAR • 6 days ago

The cool dampness of early morning seeped into the apartment through the ajar window, and the sound of the wind made my half-asleep brain register that the day ahead promised to be anything but sunny.

I wanted to roll over and finish the dream I’d been having, but the alarm went off, and I had to get up.

After brewing some coffee and taking a few sips—which warmed me up and let me forget the dampness outside—I turned on my laptop to check the prompt for the Inktober 2026 ink-drawing challenge; I wasn't even surprised to find that the word of the day was "Raw."

That word has so many meanings: anything unfinished, incomplete, undercooked, or in need of further work—right down to the nasty, raw weather that was currently tapping at my window.

I started thinking and realized that my ideas—and the concept for the drawing itself—were very "raw"; they needed a bit of drying out.

But how do you dry out thoughts?

I suppose the only right move—much like warming up on a freezing day—is simply to start doing something, so I began to draw.

Raw and puddles go together like a needle and thread; you can often see fallen leaves in those puddles—and it is autumn, after all.

I thought about how clearly you can see people's reactions to that "raw" weather at city bus stops in the morning.

Some huddle under the shelter, while others run, terrified of missing the trolleybus, their umbrellas buckling under the gusts of wind.

And, to fully embrace the "Raw" theme, I decided to leave the drawing in a raw state—so I could mull it over later and perhaps add something more to the piece. Lol.

Hmm…. I could smell your nice coffee smell, love it as first thing in the morning!

I really like the description of your thought thread how you came to this idea. Also seeing your drawing I felt cold and wet. I love to be at home in front of our wood burner.

Seeing the trams rushing in rain, for me it associates immediately with Lisbon’s street and it is an old city with such beautiful old tram.

I’ve heard that it gets quite chilly in Lisbon and that staying warm can be a problem due to the lack of heating systems—is that true or just a myth?
But coffee warms you up regardless :)

Nothing is certain yet—time will tell :)

I am glad that y ou are keeping a company with me and going ahead with drawings, lovely scene but very wet with a leaf that is looking like a boat.

I was puzzled when I saw the word Ram today, but I was glad to see your version of hte word today too, really love it!

To be honest, I thought the leaf would turn out a bit better, but that’s just how it is with autumn—you never know which leaf will curl up into a tube :)
Thanks!

Today's prompt is : ram - see the picture underneath post, nevertheless, raw fits too, how odd.
It seems that what hits the boat about of the air rams it!

Leaving the page in a raw state is also very smart!

I think we’re actually quite lucky that the topic names aren’t made up of words from Shi’s poem :)
Someone really should have taken the wide range of possible meanings into account and added a brief explanation in parentheses for each word, clarifying exactly what the challenge creator wants to see for it :)
