Building for Steem’s Next Chapter: An Introduction to Substeem
Yesterday on @dove11’s post talking about the STEEM price, @steemcurator01 left a comment on our reply:
"Hopefully you will make an introduction about who you are very soon. Otherwise you will struggle to get trust and acceptance from the Community."
They’re right.
If an account shows up in a comment section talking about fixing token economics and building infrastructure, people have every reason to ask who is behind it. There have been plenty of promises on Steem over the years that never led anywhere. Trust here has to be earned through honesty and working tools, not vague hype.
So here is a straightforward introduction to who we are and what we’re doing.
Who We Are
We are a small, self-funded group of developers and long-time builders.
Some of us have been involved with Steem since 2017. We’ve watched the network go through its best days, its hardest governance splits, and the long bear markets that followed. We don’t need to point to old personal usernames from back then—what matters is that we know this blockchain inside and out. We know its quirks, its strengths, and where things have gone off track.
Over the past few years, watching active community members and long-time stakeholders like dove11—people who powered up thousands of dollars worth of STEEM and stayed loyal—watch their holdings melt away has been tough to see. Most developers gave up and moved to other chains long ago.
We decided to take a different route: stay, build, and try to fix the underlying issues.
Revealing Our Identity: Substeem
Before diving into the vision, we wanted to share our official brand mark with the community:
We designed the logo to blend Steem’s heritage with infrastructure precision.
- The three dynamic stream lines pay tribute to the classic Steem waves that brought all of us here in the first place.
- The modular geometric blocks at the tips symbolize foundational building blocks—representing the protocol layer we are constructing to support the chain underneath.
Not Just Another Frontend
Over the years, we’ve seen quite a few new frontends launch on Steem. A lot of talented people have put together great interfaces, but almost all of them run into the exact same wall:
A new interface doesn't solve an economic problem.
Putting a clean skin on top of the blockchain is nice, but if the only thing users can do is write a post and immediately sell their rewards on an exchange, the token will keep bleeding. It doesn't matter how pretty the buttons look.
Substeem is not just another UI.
While we did build a fast, clean interface inspired by the simplicity of community-driven forums and the early days of Busy.org, the core focus of Substeem is what happens underneath the interface.
We have engineered our own economic mechanics directly on Layer 1. The goal isn't just to let people read and publish posts; it's to create real, daily utility where users and communities actually have a reason to hold, use, and circulate STEEM on-chain, rather than just dumping it onto exchanges the second a payout lands.
What’s Next
We are keeping the exact technical details close to the chest for just a little longer while we finish stress-testing our code. We don't believe in over-promising or making bold claims before people can actually test things for themselves.
We are not asking for delegations, funding, or special treatment. We’re funding this out of our own pockets.
Over the next few days, we’ll be putting the finishing touches on our beta so the community, witnesses, and curators can test it out, poke holes in it, and give us real feedback.
To @steemcurator01, @dove11, and everyone who still believes in the future of this network: we’re excited to show you what we’ve been working on.

The logo looks great, so I'm really curious and optimistic, especially about what these own economic mechanics are all about. See you in your next post...

Very mysterious...
I’m looking forward to your presentation.

Thanks for the upvote and for tuning in @moecki!
The "mystery" is mostly deliberate restraint on our part. Too many projects on Steem have started with loud fanfare and empty promises before writing a single line of code. We wanted to announce our intent clearly first, without polluting the feed with buzzwords.
The upcoming presentation won't be corporate marketing slides—it will be concrete architecture breakdowns, UI modules, and testable tooling that works natively with Steem L1.
As a long-standing witness and builder here, your eyes and critique on the technical blueprints will mean a lot to us once the next post drops.
Ambitious and straightforward: that will at least get you some attention and interest. I'm curious to see what your ideas actually look like...

Thanks for reading and for the candid feedback @weisser-rabe — and especially for the support.
Healthy skepticism is completely justified here. Steem has seen plenty of grand whitepapers, token schemes, and promises over the years that ended in vaporware. We have zero interest in repeating that history.
Our approach with Substeem is practical:
We're looking forward to sharing the technical blueprints in the coming posts and would value your critique once the working pieces are live.

I'll definitely always be happy to share my opinion with you. The only problem is: I probably have no idea what you'll be writing about ;-)) @moecki - I bet you'll be the one translating for the clueless ones...?

I don't know...
Somehow, when someone makes such mysterious announcements, it usually doesn't amount to much. We'll see...

Upvoted! Thank you for supporting witness @jswit.

Thanks for the introduction and for taking up this challenge. I truly admire people supporting the Steemit blockchain selflessly, without expecting delegations or outside funds, and investing from their own pockets with such confidence. Such efforts deserve our support, if nothing else. I wish you great success.
@wakeupkitty @suboohi @adeljose
Thank you for your introduction and for trying to do something for Steem's growth. I hope to see Steem reach the next level.
