Local Hasher uses tech to help us to get to the sites better

in #running8 days ago

We Chiang Mai Hashers are a little behind the times as far as technology is concerned because we don't really need more complications in our life. When someone talks to me about AI I inform them that I am not interested and then they kind of berate me for not staying up with the times. So be it!

Recently a guy used some sort of imaging technology that might be old news to younger people out there but has been very helpful to those of us that actually drive to the events. GPS of course is the most helpful thing, but would you believe that there are those of us that don't even want to use that?

He starts you out at an intersection that everyone would know that lives here and in this case it was Canal Road / Samoeng intersection (1269 & 119).

Then he tells us that we need to turn somewhere and provides an image to help even further.

This could be anywhere on Canal road so this was something you kind of have to pay attention for. The next turns though, were extremely helpful.

For me an many other older people, a landmark like a business on a corner is far more helpful than any names of roads especially since the signs here are not guaranteed to be in English.

This becomes even more helpful when we get near the end of it and the roads start becoming less and less busy. Thankfully this street always has some signs on the end of it.

The very last turn is something that I don't think most of us would have spotted if it were not for these picture-by-picture explanation of it. That road doesn't even have a name and it is just a drive that was put in by someone local. I'm not sure if we have permission to use it but hell, nobody has complained yet!

I suspect this is just images taken from Google Street View, which I have toyed around with in the past but never really had much of a use for. I guess we have a use for it now.

Of course the easier way to get to all of our events is just to meet at the Tha Phae Gate McDonalds at quarter to 4 and catch a cheap ride on the bus that we book. That's what I do for the most part. When you take the bus there are no restrictions on how much beer you can drink too!

On On!
