Season 34: Week 8 Challenge Question 2
🇬🇧 English
We're starting a new round of challenges and questions on Steemit and, before we knew it, we're already at week 8 of season 34. That's great, because the platform has become much more dynamic, which is what many of us had wanted for a long time.
This week I'll skip question 1 because, honestly, going shopping is usually a stressful experience for me. Besides, thanks to our small family business, we have suppliers who bring the merchandise right to our door.
But the second question is one I had wanted someone to ask me for a long time and, now that it's on the table, my brain seems to have gone blank.
Even so, I'll take part with a few small suggestions, because I believe that not every positive change has to be big or groundbreaking to be useful.
Season 34: Week 8 Challenge Questions
Question 2: How to improve Steemit.com
What would improve the Steemit.com user experience is optimization for mobile phones. Not all of us are lucky enough to have a desktop computer or a laptop, and that sometimes makes navigation difficult.
For example, I received complaints about a contest I organized: to keep the story's thread going, nested replies were needed and, by the fourth or fifth reply, they became almost impossible to read on a mobile phone.
I should mention that I hadn't noticed this problem because I normally use steemx.org, which is much friendlier on a smartphone.
What new feature would you like to see added to Steemit.com?
I'd love for each notification to be unmarked once I click on it. I often go back to the same notifications by mistake, and it's a bit annoying at times.
I really think it would be a very useful feature for everyone, and I hope it's technically possible.
Describe in detail how the new feature would work.
The new feature would unmark a notification once it has been checked. I don't need it to count the current number of pending notifications; it would be enough for that little dot to disappear without having to use the "mark all as read" option. Yes, I know, it's so trivial... but I would really love it!
Who would be able to build this new feature?
Well, the fact that it doesn't work the way I'd like right now makes me suspect it's not possible. So maybe only Gandalf the White could pull it off.
Would many people use it?
I think it's something we'd all use, except for the people with bot accounts, because those don't really reply to comments or questions.
Is the new feature likely to attract new users to the platform, or is it more about improving the experience for current users?
Basically, it would improve the experience of current users. Apparently, attracting new users is a dilemma that a single feature may not be able to solve... only the passage of time will make blockchain use more common, unless those addictive Web 2.0 social media algorithms get added in!

Me too. I wish they have it for every other platform too because I don't really get much notification here, so it's still manageable for me now. But it's a good feature to have.
That I find strange.
There's a colour difference as soon as you clicked at a notification (after all these are links) and you have that dot behind every new notification till you say you read them all (even if you didn't you can still see the difference between what you read and what not).
As I see it l, you can clearly see, what you read or not.
You can also give an upvote to what you read and answered!
This all besides of the fact @kafio already developed that option and I tested it, if not mistaken over a year ago.
By the way: You can make your list with notifications shorter by checking mentions and replies separately.
If I check replies I can read the first words and see if the comment is short or longer. I also remember if I read and answered it for example underneath the post. If that is the case the link in 'replies' will still show 'unread'
I don't have much notification here so I would usually look at ALL and I marked as read after I'm done at each session. But the problem is if I can't finish in one session, I won't mark them even though half is done. I also upvote each I've check out.
This vote is yours and deserved! Let's read, comment and connect.
❤️🍀
Thank you @wakeupkitty
Hehe, in my case, since I usually check once a day, quite a few pile up, and sometimes I repeat the same ones! Hopefully it can be implemented 😜
I used to snap a picture of the notification to see where I left off, if there's too many notifications. Not on this site though.
Good strategy, I'd also like the site to have a time and date. The "14 hours ago" thing always leaves me wondering, hehe.
14 hours isn't helping because if you revisit it later, there's are difference in hours. You can't even refresh the page
Yes, it always gets me into trouble. The solution is to log in every few hours and always uncheck it lol
I know you can log in anytime and anywhere from your phone. I only log in on desktop. Do we need an app for this?
I believe there's a Steem app available. But due to lack of memory on my phone, I only use the web version. Luckily, my screen is wide enough... Not like when I was browsing the internet using a Nokia 2030 or something like that, with a Nokia 1100 screen. Now that was a challenge!
Hello the account of pastorencina is a bot account. Reply generated with AI.
Upvoted! Thank you for supporting witness @jswit.
Thanks a lot for your support @josepha and @booming04 😊 Have a great day!
Hi Lady, good to see you again.
You’ve raised a noteworthy point—one that the Steem TEAM should take SERIOUSLY.
As you know, I like to get into the nitty-gritty details whenever I can, which is why I want to contribute my thoughts here.
Why do I say the Steem TEAM needs to pay CLOSE ATTENTION to this BUG? Because that’s exactly what it is—a bug!
The reason is simple: this type of bug is "always" underestimated because it appears on other platforms (competitors and otherwise), manifesting as the uncontrolled appearance of VERY ANNOYING notifications. On some platforms, this actually costs you "coins"—though I’ll write a dedicated article on that specific point later.
I haven't personally verified how it works on Steem yet, since I’m relatively new here.
But without "bothering" any of the self-proclaimed "geniuses" out there, I’ll try to fix the bug using my imagination—and I have plenty of that, as I’ve demonstrated many times online.
If I were on the Steem staff, I’d fix the responsive rendering of nested replies—preventing each level from shrinking the readable space on smartphones—and properly synchronize the notification status with the server.
As long as they just "hide" the problem within the interface, well... don't hold your breath; the bug will remain right there.
Let me repeat this for any "geniuses" listening: you have to fix the root cause in the code and test the results across various devices and browsers.
I hope the Steem TEAM is better than the teams at Ecency and "the rest of the bunch," because if they can't solve this, I find it hard to imagine them successfully implementing the even more brilliant and ambitious ideas suggested in this contest. So, let's get even more technical and raise the bar here on STEEM too; by participating in this contest, let's see what ideas come to mind.
THANK YOU for involving us and pointing out this CRUCIAL BUG that many people—competitors and others alike—
still underestimate today.
Keep this bug in mind, because understanding life's COINCIDENCES will soon prove useful to you. I’ll write a dedicated article about the world of NOTIFICATIONS within the "DPoS" realm, specifically regarding a competitor.
While we're at it, let's add that STEEM isn't without its own bugs either; like other platforms, it suffers from an issue with uploading photos.
Even though there are workarounds, we must ALWAYS put ourselves in the shoes of a novice user with no experience.
It doesn't take a "WIZARD" or a "GENIUS" to fix these bugs—which are becoming increasingly common on writing and content creation platforms—just attention, good will, and a technically capable, active team.
We’ll write a detailed article on this too, partly because I’m starting to get bored :D
Keep it up, LADY; it’s details like these that make the difference in an active community that truly wants to make an impact on a long-term project.
So, THANK YOU... @condividisulweb
Hi! I haven't seen you around here before, so welcome. Thanks for your feedback. Best regards.
Thank you! Steem was the final stop in the DPoS trilogy. I hope to find more professionalism here and a stronger desire to stand out in the long run. In the coming weeks, I’ll figure out where they’re heading, or whether they already believe their old system works for EVERYONE, or just for the STEEM “old-timers,” who I don’t think offer much of an advantage, especially to newcomers like me, or whether they can even recognize the value of independent, forward-thinking creators.
We’ll see whether the DPoS system wants to save itself through innovation, making room for new, futuristic visions, or whether it intends to fossilize around the same old, pointless “reward multiplication” routine that outside communities keep seeing but rarely engage with.
As I always say, it’s only a matter of time. It’s still too early to draw any definitive conclusions, although I’ve obviously already reached a few preliminary ones.
We’re waiting for input from the top, which, as always, will eventually come. Again, it’s only a matter of TIME.
See you next time, and thanks for sharing that bug report. I really appreciate it! @condividisulweb
If you're waiting for a perfect system, you'll have to create your own, or as blocktrades said, buy more tokens to have decision-making power. 😂
Remember that on any platform or program,
it is ALWAYS the USER BASE that makes the difference!
If you mess with the user base, it’s game over for anyone—the spotlight turns on permanently, and, most importantly, once trust is lost, it NEVER comes back. That’s just statistics!
Furthermore, many major competitors are moving in a different direction, abandoning the DPOS (Delegated Proof of Stake) concept.
As of today, the DPOS challenge can be seen on platforms like Steem and Blurt.
The ideal system would be a fusion of the two, or a dramatic acceleration of one over the other.
Much of what I’ve written has actually come to pass—fortunately, some people do read my work, and perhaps various communities pick up a few ideas here and there, leading to the emergence of new spaces.
The bottom line remains the same: they might ignore the user base—as often happens in the early stages—but eventually, they either adapt, fall behind, or collapse entirely.
Besides, if I were to create a "perfect" system, I wouldn't be FREE.
True freedom lies in SHARING—just like an open-source project! 😂Tomorrow, I’m entering a contest and providing some initial input. Even if they pretend not to read it—acting "superior" by refusing to upvote my content—sooner or later, they will have to acknowledge the quality and intellectual honesty. In the end, they might try to ignore you, but valid IDEAS and "thinking outside the box" can NEVER be ignored... See you soon! 😂@condividisulweb
Please give me examples of the impact your work has had and where. Achievements must be cited with sources; otherwise, they sound like boasting. I offer this as constructive criticism. Have a great rest of the day.
Hey Lady, just go to blockchain hive, blurt and read my comments. You can also expand on publish0x. You'll see how much material and feedback you'll find, especially predictive comments. In my experience, after 2 weeks, They were verifying.
Some WITNESSES from the first two platforms know this very well.
There's no point in talking; fortunately, the facts remain on the blockchain. It seems to me that in some cases you've put them together very well. Reread the comments here so that perhaps your memory will come back, because on some of those topics, there are even active articles.
Forget about sources... Reread the comments and see if anything has happened!!! THE USER IS THE HEART, don't forget that.
Good luck in your participation in this contest...
And remember, always express your thoughts without fear of losing a few votes, because in the end, it's all about FREE THOUGHT.
But we've already covered this topic! @condividisulweb
I'm sorry, I'd need three lifetimes to read all your comments; it's humanly impossible.I am a proponent of synthesis If something cannot be summarized in a few words, it's because there's nothing useful in it.
